Keep the important things safe
Back up important files before changes are made. Check that you can open a file from your backup; having a copy is more useful when you know it works. Close banking, payment pages, private documents and anything unrelated to the task.
Get the essentials together
Have a working internet connection, your appointment details and the device involved ready. For printer software help, the printer must already be switched on, connected and reachable. Keep the error message or a short description of the problem nearby.
Plan a comfortable session
Stay at the computer for the appointment. Email beforehand about communication or access needs, breaks or anything that would help you follow the steps. Tell Leighton if an explanation needs to be slower or clearer.
Only accept the connection you expect
Follow the joining instructions for your agreed appointment. Never grant access because of an unexpected call or warning pop-up. Enter your own passwords when needed; do not send passwords, recovery keys or security codes by email. You can disconnect whenever you need to.
Keep the next steps
At the end, close the remote connection and keep your appointment details and any agreed follow-up. If the computer cannot connect or the issue needs physical repair, ask about suitability before booking.
Your quick preparation checklist
Tick these as a reminder for this visit. Nothing is sent or saved.
